Born in Fuxin, Liaoning, China, Siyuan Tan graduated from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts with a BFA and the Savannah College of Art and Design with an MFA in sculpture. He now lives and works in New York. His work experience as a Clay molder at Ford has exposed him to various materials used in art construction and industrial production, which has expanded his creative medium to include a broader range of industrial materials such as spray paint. Tan's artistic notion has continuously evolved around the distinction, connection, and relationship between real and virtual spaces. He also focuses on the direct or indirect movement of objects, the flow of energy generated by people in space, and the resulting mutual traction relationship, which extends to examining culture, faith, politic, economy, military, and other matters. In addition, the artist's own childhood memories, colonial history, and immigrant experiences also form the primary references of his works.
