Song Hongquan’s work, Post Stone Age 2021 - Monument of 85 Stonecutter’s Tools, is included in the 2021 Chengdu Biennale, currently on view until April 6, 2022. The artwork is inspired by Song’s family legacy of Chinese traditional stonecutters from Hebei. Sculptures presented in this biennale are replicas of Song's family inherited stonecutting tools.
As time has passed the tools have been constantly aging, descending, and dying out. This series of sculptures become monuments of these stonecutting tools that documented the flow of time from generation to generation and the nostalgia of hand-making objects.
