Chambers Fine Art is pleased to present on Saturday September 7th Pixy Liao: Experimental Pop-up!, a special exhibition and performance at our Beijing gallery in Caochangdi.
The exhibition will feature selected images from Pixy Liao’s ongoing Experimental Relationship series, which was awarded the 2018 Jimei × Arles – Madame Figaro Women Photographers Award, the first award for female photographers in China. Experimental Relationship is a visual exploration of her relationship with her Japanese boyfriend Moro, which was also given a special juror’s mention at last year’s Paris Photo/Aperture Foundation First Photobook Award.
This past March, new photographs from the series made their debut at Chambers Fine Art New York in a solo exhibition called Open Kimono. The exhibition was extremely well-received, and subsequently Pixy Liao was featured at the Fotografia Europea in Reggio Emilia, Italy, in April, and was named one of the New York Times’ “6 Photographers to Look Out for” at the internationally renowned Arles Photography Festival this summer.
Chambers Fine Art Beijing will be showing 12 photographs from Pixy’s seminal body of work, and at our opening reception the artist will give a musical performance as PIMO, her musical ‘toy-rock’ duo along her boyfriend Moro.
Chambers is also pleased to share that earlier in the week, on September 5th, Pixy Liao will be presenting a performance lecture as part of UCCA’s “New Sites” series, an ongoing series curated by Liya Han. The performance lecture, a time-based creative form that fuses theory and improvisation and enlists audience participation, blurs the boundary between creative endeavor and knowledge production. Please visit http://ucca.org.cn/ for more information on Pixy’s lecture.
We welcome you join us from 3-6pm on Saturday, September 7th for the opening reception and a special musical performance by PIMO.
